5 Things you can do in London Boishakhi Mela
The Boishaki Mela of London was launched by the Bangladeshi community in 1997 in Brick Lane which is considered as one of the largest community events in Tower Hamlets. The Mela is now organised and managed by Tower Hamlets council. This year the Mela is going to be organised in Weaver fields, London on 14 May 2017.
There are a numbers of activities which you can do in Boishakhi Mela. They are:
1) Enjoy the Bengali cultural programme:
Bengal is the birth place for a rich cultural heritage and Bangladeshi people are well known for their enthusiastic views. The Boishakhi mela is the conjunction of these rich culture and enthusiasm. The Boishakhi Mela cultural programme is usually organised with a numbers of different activities like: classical songs (By Rabindranath Tagore, Kazi Nazrul Islam and others), folk songs, traditional dances, Band Music by the popular Bangladesh bands and solo singers.
2) Enjoy Bengali traditional foods:
Bangladesh is a land of large verities of foods from different regions. The Boishakhi Mela allows the community people to bring the foods with different types and tastes. There are a numbers of food stalls with a verities of Bengali traditional foods. You will able to taste some very special traditional foods prepared by amateurs which are usually not available throughout the year. Panta Ilish, Chotpoti, Fuchka, Bhorta (Mash of Potato, Dal, Begun, Shutki) are among them.
3) Meet Bengali community people:
You will be having a very Bengali gesture in London for that day. The community people enjoy chatting and roaming with the friends and family with their Bengali style traditional dress and appearance. The Mela will also offer you the opportunity to meet with the community leaders, members and know about their views and future plans.
4) Enjoy fun rides:
There will be opportunities to enjoy different rides in the Mela. This will give you extra fun and the Mela will be more enjoyable for you. The rides like Pendulum ride, Balloon race, reverse bungee, Hurricane, Top Scan were available in previous years.
5) Visit the stalls:
By visiting the stalls of Boishakhi Mela, you will not only enjoy shopping or taste foods but also it will give good ideas about the Bangladeshi traditional dresses, handicrafts, goods and foods. Sometimes, they are very worthy to buy because of their values against the prices.
The Boishakhi Mela is considered as the showcase for Bangladeshi culture, food and community gathering. The people from the other communities are also welcome here to see the view of the Bangladeshi community.
